An Imaginary Friend

An Imaginary Friend

This morning as we were leaving the park and I was encouraging Bella to “come on,” she in turn turned to her left hand and began talking to Piglet.

“Come on, Piglet,” she said,” This way.” And then she told him he’d eat a bowl of haycorns at grandma’s house.

Sure enough, when we got home Bella sat down to eat her quesadillas and beans and emptied her pockets onto the table. Among the treasures were rocks and dandelions and pecans. And acorns. The acorns went on her right hand and she encouraged Piglet to eat them.

She’s certainly carried her stuffed friends around and spoken to them in this way before; but this is the first time she’s spoken to a friend who was only there in her imagination. It was adorable.
