Language explosion

Language explosion

I’d read that language acquisition doesn’t happen at a constant rate over a period of time; but in bursts. Suddenly it will seem that something connects, new pathways open in the brain, and a child goes through a flurry of learning. This past week Isabella certainly seems to be going through a language growth spurt, adding one or two, or more, new words a day.

Tonight she surprised Dom by saying “more”, a word she’s been signing for a while. She coupled the sign with the spoken word.

The new words are very clear and she repeats them over and over. It’s delightful to watch the learning taking place and her joy with each new word is contagious.
