Bella’s Perch

Bella’s Perch

My daughter loves looking out the windows. Today found her trying to peek out of her bedroom window at the family next door and frustrated because that window is a little less accessible than the kitchen window (see pictures below.) So Dom helpfully moved the nursing stool over to the window for her and she stayed there for some time, complaining bitterly when somehow the stoll was shifted and she couldn’t get it back into place.

Dinner time found her standing at the window watching the father next door rinse off his pool skimmer with the garden hose, which was mounted right in front of her window. He looked up as I admonished her, “You’d rather watch the neighbors than eat dinner!” and a pleasant conversation followed. He told me the previous people here had a little boy who used to watch him snow-blow their driveway.

Here are a few pictures I snapped the other day of her at the kitchen window where she can watch the people come and go, especially at the ice-cream shop across the street. Notice how she’s climbed up onto the baseboard and is clinging to it with her little monkey toes. I love how pleased with herself she looks, too.

  • How sweet!  It reminds me of a game that we played when my youngest was about 12 months old.  We called it secret agent baby.  I think it started when we caught him eating paper, and we figured that he was destroying his secret messages.  Then when he threw the remote control in the potty we knew that he was actively working as a secret agent.  At one of his well baby checks, the pediatrician commented on the serious look on his little face.  I told him, Well, hes a secret agent baby.  The doctor replied, without missing a beat, Oh, a double-naught spy.
