Monday August 27
Anthony did math and copywork.
Ben: math, copywork, Explode the Code, Bob book.
Sophie: math, copywork, French, Child’s Geography, read and narrated from This Country of Ours.
Bella: math, copywork, read and narrated from Story of the Church and then plotted out a video project that she wants to do based on that book. Also read and narrated from Come Rack Come Rope. And she’s also started reading As You Like It, on her Kindle. She says participating in our summer Shakespeare class and watching the play have made her more confident about reading it on her own. And the Kindle is better than my big Shakespeare book because it’s not so heavy and it doesn’t have such busy pages with multiple columns. She’s so very excited about the History of the Church book, saying it’s more than just the history of the Church, it’s the history of the world. And it’s exactly the book she was looking for to fill in the gaps the other books about the middle ages didn’t cover.
Afternoon stories: Finally finished St Magnus. So glad to be done. I liked the saint and his story, but disliked the actual execution of the novel. It was often painful to read. More about that later in a separate post, I hope. Day on Skates. Magna Charta. Book of Marvels. Lectionary readings and saint of the day.
Bedtime story: Winged Watchman.

Tuesday August 28
Everyone did math and copywork.
We had our final Shakespeare class meeting with a little tea party and discussion of the performances we’d seen. It was rather sad to say goodbye to this class which has meant so much to our family this summer, spending time with friends and with Shakespeare and getting to know both better. Bella finished reading As You Like It. The whole play. On her own. With no prompting. I’m so proud of her. Now she’s absorbed in Come Rack Come Rope and wanted to tell me all about it and about how the timeline lines up with that of Crossbows and Crucifixes.
In the car we are listening to The Hobbit. We’ve had some good conversations about the differences between it and The Lord of the Rings. And about the riddles. It’s been fun.
Bedtime story: Elephant and Piggie.
