Learning Notes Week of October 23

Learning Notes Week of October 23

Monday October 23

Ben did math and read me a Bob book.

Anthony did math.

Bella did math and copywork.

Sophie did math and copywork.

The kids got out the Mass kit and played Mass. They did the whole thing. Bella was priest because she could read the best and could chant. Sophie and Anthony were lectors and Sophie was cantor. Ben and Lucy acted as altar servers. Bella read from her missal and Sophie sang from the hymnal. She chose Sweet Sacrament, one of my favorites. They also sang Lift High the Cross. This took at least half an hour. They were very thorough. I’ll count it as reading aloud and, of course, catechesis.

After that they put on costumes and made a play. Something in which Sophie was empress and Ben emperor and Anthony was a solider.

Afternoon stories on the patio: Francie on the Run, King of Ireland’s Son, Book of Angels, Augustus Caesar’s World, North with the Spring.

The rest of the afternoon was running around outside and playing with legos and costumes. I can’t believe we’re still having such summerish weather.

Bedtime story: Ben requested a library book, Anthony wanted something from Irish fairy tales.

We started the day by taking my sister to the airport shuttle. We listened to more of our current audio book,The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, on the way home. When we got home I persuaded the kids to get a little work done.

Bella did math and copywork. She read a little in Exploding Suns and in Romance of Reality volume about Japan. She wrote a little composition based on her math work, three sentences about angels: defining right, acute, and obtuse angles. She started and finished reading Howl’s Moving Castle and then was desperate to discuss it with me.
