In the Bleak Midwinter

In the Bleak Midwinter

  In the bleak midwinter
  Frosty wind made moan,
  Earth stood hard as iron,
  Water like a stone;
  Snow had fallen,
  Snow on snow,
  Snow on snow,
  In the bleak midwinter,
  Long ago.

  • Beautiful! One of the things I liked of snow when I was a child was the different look it gave to usual things – and of course all the fun you could have with it, even to just look up at the big flakes falling fast was good fun! Now I think my favorite thing is the silence and peacefulness of a world finally quiet under thick, perfect snow.
    Perfect weather to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate… though, come to think of it, any weather is perfect weather for that wink

  • I believe that this is a Dark-Eyed Junco.  May I recommend, The Sibley Guide to Birds for a gift under the Christmas Tree.  Merry Christmas to All Maryann

  • That’s a junco indeed. We used to see a lot of them at our feeder in wintertime in Virginia. I miss them! Sweet little things, so pretty against the snow.

    Merry Christmas to all of you, Melanie!
