Allergies

We still haven’t got a formal diagnosis, but using an elimination diet, I’m pretty sure I’ve determined that Sophie can’t eat wheat, oats, and bananas.

We’ve had her on a very simple diet of rice, potato, applesauce, yogurt and meat and all her symptoms finally cleared up this week. Today I gave her a very small portion of a toasted oat cereal that did not contain any other grain but rice. And she got rashy around the mouth, red and irritated in the diaper, and very cranky and finally vomited on Dom. I was so hoping she’d be able to tolerate oats at least. But no such luck.

Next step is getting a formal diagnosis, but from what our pediatrician said, the elimination diet is actually the most proven method for determining food sensitivities.

I’m praying that she’ll be one of those kids who is able to outgrow these food allergies. It would be one thing if she didn’t like the things that make her ill; but she adores bananas and cheerios and bread. And it is so hard when Bella can eat them and poor Phia can’t.
