More Homeowner Drama

This morning while Sophie was napping, Bella was reading quietly next to me on the couch, and I was checking my email when I thought I heard a car pull into the driveway. Not expecting the cable guy till this afternoon, I thought I was mistaken. Must be next door.

Then the power cut out.

I jumped off the couch and flung open the door to confront the National Grid worker getting into her van. I asked her what was going on and she said she had a cut-off notice for today. Maybe we hadn’t set up an account. I was positive Dom had called to set up the account so asked her to turn it back on or to wait while I called National Grid to sort out the confusion. She gave me the phone number, turned the power back on, and left while I dialed the number and worked my way through the phone tree.

Sure enough, we had an account. But, it turns out the previous owner had upgraded the system and never had the upgrade inspected. So I needed to call the town inspector to see if the inspection had been done and if not to have it inspected.

The inspector came within minutes and said he’d call the electrician who did the work. A few things needed to be corrected. Then the inspector will come back tonight and call the electric company first thing in the morning. Hopefully they won’t come to turn the power off again before that happens.
