Bella’s down for her nap, Sophia’s sleeping soundly in the swing. The beans for tonight’s black bean soup are bubbling happily on the stove and there’s a load of laundry in the washer and another tumbling in the dryer. I sit down at my computer with a bowl of leftover tuna salad and a package of crackers. Oooh lots of messages in the inbox. Wonder who’s written. There are 12 copies of the same message: a reminder from another user on Book Mooch asking if I’ve received the book she sent me back in February. No, I haven’t, I reply and, by the way, 12 messages are a bit obnoxious. I hope it was a problem with the system or something.
Soon an apologetic email pops up and I feel so bad for my snarkyness: “sorry, my little son pushed that button 12 times before i noticed it and stopped him!!! I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry!”
I should have guessed. Just another mom like me with a kid who can’t keep his hands off the keyboard. Should have not said anything.

Emails completed, I go to lay down, maybe I can catch a nap. But Sophia wakes up and smiles at me. Big goofy grin. Maybe she’ll be content to swing for a while longer. But, no, she starts to whimper just as I pull down the covers. Probably a wet diaper.
And then, as my hand touches the diaper tab to open it…. wet. Ick, it’s leaked poop all up her side and front. I grab a huge handful of wipes and carefully start to wipe it all off. I get the worst of it off and then as I’m putting the diaper in the bin, I glance up at her face. She’s smiling, laughing at me, one finger stuck in her mouth. And there, on the side of her hand, (yes, the hand that’s in her mouth!!!) a big smear of yellow poo. Oh eeeewwwww! Sophia!!! She smiles her gummy little smile as I grab her hand and wipe it off, as I pull off all her clothes and wipe her down, as I put on a new shirt. Sweet, happy baby smiles. Who can be mad at that?

I glance up at the front door and see green marks at knee height. A little birthday girl is going to have some cleaning to do when she wakes up from her nap.
