The Princess and the Kiss

The Princess and the Kiss

Last week my sister-in-law asked me whether I’d heard anything about this book. She was wondering whether it would be appropriate for her girls who are currently obsessed with princesses. I’d seen the title but didn’t really know anything about it, so I looked at the Amazon reviews. Most of them were extremely positive, glowing in fact; but the negative ones had some concerns that gave me pause. So I checked it out on interlibrary loan.

It lays the groundwork for future discussions about purity and chastity but the story itself is couched in such terms that it won’t prematurely threaten a young girl’s innocence either. I like the idea I’ve seen on many mom blogs about using young girls’ fascination with princesses and playing dress-up as an introduction to character-formation, morality, chastity and virtue. This book will fit right in with such a curriculum.

I think it’s a charming story with lovely illustrations and I’m going to highly recommend it for my nieces, aged six and five.
