Authority, leadership, and complementarity in marriage

Authority, leadership, and complementarity in marriage

A good discussion is taking place in the comment box here (minus a few snarky commenters) as radical catholic mom struggles to understand masculinity in marriage and especially the ideas of authority and leadership. (And conversely the idea of submission and obedience for women.) At the request of a friend, I’m gathering my responses to her post here on my blog.

This is such a sticky subject to untangle and not surprisingly toes have been stepped on and the boundaries of decent discussion have been breached; but Ive enjoyed trying to get my own ideas sorted out and feel Ive come to much better grips with the topic in doing so.

This is a very long post,  so I’ll put the body after the jump.

I have to apologize that it’s not a well-edited post, I just don’t have time for that right now. I’ve just strung the various comments I made together, with a little bit of smoothing out some of the rougher patches.
