March Book Notes

March Book Notes

Books Finished in March:

1. The Liars’ Club: A Memoir by Mary Karr

I’m glad I finished The Liar’s Club. Though I rather wish I’d read Mary Karr’s trio of memoirs in chronological order instead of backwards.

2. Three Men In A Boat (To Say Nothing Of The Dog…) by Jerome K. Jerome

Finally finished. Now I want to go back and re-read To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis.

3. Dreamers, Discoverers & Dynamos: How to Help the Child Who Is Bright, Bored and Having Problems in School (Formerly Titled ‘The Edison Trait’) by Lucy Jo Palladino PhD

Book notes here.

Books Currently in Progress:

1. The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky

If I haven’t finished as many books this month as I might have it’s because I’m really trying not to be distracted from The Brothers Karamazov. I’ve made pretty good headway, am on page 360 and am pretty confident that this time I’m going to make it to the end.

I’m reading the Constance Garnett Translation (Norton Critical Editions). This is the copy I bought for the Russian novel class I dropped at midterms my junior year in college. (Not because it was a bad class, the opposite in fact—but because I was over-scheduled and it was my one elective.) The Anchoress recently posted about a new translation that she’s reading.

I’ll write more about The Brothers K. later. Right now I just want to get this post finished since it’s already the third of April.

2. Tending the Heart of Virtue: How Classic Stories Awaken a Child’s Moral Imagination by Vigen Guroian

This one was suggested by Katherine of evlogia. I hope to write up book notes later.

3. Women, Sex, and the Church: A Case for Catholic Teaching by Erika Bachiochi.

I plan to write up my notes for this one soon.
