Maybe vacation week is actually the best week to pledge to do a blog post a day. Now I have an incentive to not sit on the photos from our trips but instead to just get them up on the blog right away.
So today we went to the Franklin Park Zoo. We’ve been once before. Last year. When Anthony was the toddler riding in the Ergo on my back. This time we bought a membership and I’m thinking it might be fun to bring the kids for a light morning to sit and sketch just one or two animals and have a picnic lunch.
I’m too tired to provide much narrative. Monday was a day I was on my feet a long time with Lucia in the Ergo. Today I definitely felt it. By the end of the day me hips ached and my knees too. For the first time even I had some chafing around my waist where the Ergo was pushing against my belt. Evidence those pounds have crept up on me again. And that I really shouldn’t wear the Ergo and a belt at the same time. But boy we had fun. We brought a picnic lunch, parking is free. And if we go just one more time the price of the membership will have been totally worth it.
Today Dom took all the pictures with an SLR he borrowed from work. My little phone memory was full so I didn’t even bother. It was kind of nice not worrying about pictures.
Lucia in the carrier. With the cheeks of doom.
Bella looks at… something or other.
To the amateur naturalist the plants are as interesting as the animals.
I love how Bella is gently guiding Sophie
Climbing the ladder at the giraffe observation tower.
Anthony said the slide was his favorite part.
This was the highlight of his day. Really. I’ve learned not to judge Ben’s enjoyment of an experience by the expression on his face.
Melanie, what is this daily catechism email you mentioned?
Thanks, Gina. It’s what works for me.
Vicki, It’s a nice little email service that the people at flocknote put together for the year of faith. You can subscribe here: http://flocknote.com/catechism
They’re more than halfway through the catechism now since they started back in October, but you can join up and read along to the end. They started off posting from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) but had to switch to the YouCAT because of copyright issues.
Your concept of eternity is one i can live with…other concepts just scare me…
My favorite part is ‘What should I tell the priest? “Please call security…someone’s telling us to love God!”?’
