Trimming the Tree

Trimming the Tree

People, look east. The time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able,
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the guest, is on the way.

We couldn’t find the boy scouts yesterday and the other lot must have sold out of trees because they weren’t there. So we went to Home Depot.

Ben was thrilled by the Christmas tree with lights on. He even managed to say, quite comprehensibly: “Christmas tree!”

We got a fairly small tree, much to Dom’s chagrin. But I insisted that we had to get a fairly skinny one so that it won’t get hit too often as the only place it really fits is right in the path between living room and dining room. Of course the only ones that were really skinny enough were also pretty short. However, now that the tree is in place and three excited children continually running at it, he’s starting to see my point.

The girls helped me hang ornaments while Dom went to pick up takeout Chinese and Japanese.

I had my hands full trying to keep Ben out of the ornaments while my sister snapped some pictures.

He kept snagging handfuls while Bella and Sophie bombarded me with demands that I help them hang their ornaments. Neither of them really has got the hang of getting the hooks attached to the branches yet.

Sophie was thrilled to find the Eeyore stocking.

Bella contemplated candy cane placement.

Sophie placed hers wherever she could, not worrying too much about actually hooking them onto branches.

So far no ornaments have been broken, though many balls have been separated from their hooks.

The girls contemplate the tree.

A good time was had by all.
