A Baby Sister for Bella?

A Baby Sister for Bella?

When we told Bella that we were expecting a new baby, she was incredulous. “You’re just pretending, right?” she giggled.

But we insisted that we weren’t pretending. “There really is a new baby in Mama’s belly,” Dom told her. She giggled some more.

Then she wanted to know what the baby’s name is. We told her we didn’t know yet. Obviously that was not satisfactory. She declared that the baby’s name was Rose.

“But what if the baby is a little boy? Maybe you’ll have a little brother.”

“It’s not. It’s a little girl and her name is Rose.”

This is the first time we’ve had a child old enough to be interested in the naming of our baby. It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months.

By the way, I’m not necessarily opposed to Rose—as a middle name, at least. St Rose of Lima was my confirmation saint. It’s not the name we were thinking of; but if Bella does feel strongly and doesn’t waver and we do have a girl…. Well, why not let her have some say in the matter?

  • Definitely. There is no way I’d try to bring my three to the beach without another adult. I could just see Sophie getting out too far and my not being able to get to her quick enough because I was holding the baby. Nope, I don’t believe I could keep them safe.

  • Oh, that looks like a great day!  The pictures were all terrific.  It makes me want to go to the beach and I don’t even really like the beach (too hot).

  • Jen,

It depends on where the beach is, I suppose. Here in Massachusetts, it doesn’t get nearly as hot as in Texas. The beach experience is very different when there’s a cool breeze and the water is icy.

Though I still haven’t got used to the cold, cold water. To me the ocean should feel like a nice tepid bath. Like the Gulf of Mexico. Sigh. I miss childhood vacations in Corpus Christi, Galveston, or Padre Island….

  • Oh, did I say Congratulations !!!! Rose is a very pretty name, maybe Bella is on to something. The beach looks like a lot of fun and you do such a wonderful job on sharing the experience. They are all growing up so fast, it is great that your blog really documents it all so well.
