We spent the greater part of the day poolside at Dom’s brother’s house. About 9 or 10 families were there, dozens of kids. Hot dogs and sausages on the grill, watermelon, pasta salad, chocolate chip cookies, popsicles, etc. Nothing amazing, no special red white and blue desserts or anything; but it was a perfect day. Chatting with friends and family, enjoying the sun, which we haven’t seen in weeks. A good time.
Except for the part where Sophie fell down the steps and hit her head and got a huge knot. (There were other minor bumps and bruises for several of the kids including a scraped toe for Bella that had to be bandaged; but I don’t even notice those anymore.) This, however, was one of those epic bumps that you don’t ignore.
Still, a couple of hours later she was happily splashing about on the steps of the pool. Kids are amazingly resilient.
And can I say, one nice thing about hanging out with a bunch of Catholic families is being asked, “Is this your first boy?” Such a completely different mindset in those few words.
You sound like me in many respects. I love those kinds of “fellow man” encounters.
