When Dom finally came home from his six parish tour around noon, I was getting Sophie ready for her nap but we stepped outside into the warm spring sun to say hello to him before she went to sleep. As we chatted at the door, he looked down and exclaimed, “A crocus!”
Sure enough, there were several small flowers poking their heads up along the side of the house. What joy! Since we moved in in the fall, I had no idea what we would find in the front garden when spring came, though I had hoped that we might find some surprises. The front beds are nicely laid out, well-mulched and have a good selection of shrubs.
I am so happy. Had we not had crocuses, I certainly would have bought some bulbs and planted them for next spring. Now I’m wondering what else might poke up. There are some promising little green blades here and there in the mulch. Dare I hope for daffodils?
A nice touch of spring doesn’t make my cough any less; but it certainly brightens my day.
