Sick Sophie

I took Sophie to the doctor today because I noticed some blisters on her tongue on Sunday (one of her current favorite games is to stick out her tongue at people) and she’s been acting cranky and like it hurts to eat. She acts very hungry, and she clearly wants food—when I suggest her favorite foods to her, she smiles and lights up; but when she sits down to eat, she takes a few bites and then starts fussing and wants to get down, only to repeat minutes later. Very odd in the baby who usually sits in her high chair for more than an hour and never seems to tire of eating. She’s even been leaving raisins sitting on the chair. She loves raisins and never, ever lets one get past her.

So the doctor basically said she’s got a Herpes-type virus and there’s nothing I can do except to keep her hydrated and give her Tylenol or Motrin for the pain and wait it out. My poor little baby! And this on the heels of almost two weeks of runny nose. But the doctor says we’re actually pretty lucky that she’s only got a few sores. Usually an outbreak in a small child will cover their mouth and lips with many more sores.

I just hope Bella doesn’t get it. Got to keep them from sharing cups and stuff.
