Thoughts on Naps

It’s funny how my attitude towards my kids’ need for naps has changed just because we’re on vacation. When I’m home alone with the two of them all day the naps are a welcome oasis of calm, a bit of time for myself, my needed solitude. But when we’re traveling, and especially as yesterday when we had a lovely visit with Jen of Conversion Diary, naps seem like an annoying intrusion, an arbitrary decree from small tyrants out to ruin my social life. It felt like we’d just got there, had just begun to have a cozy chat, when suddenly the kids started to have meltdowns, the clock had suddenly jumped ahead, and it was clear that we had to let our hostess get her girls down and we had to get our girls home for naps. Ignore small ones’ need for naps at your peril, especially when they are already off kilter with traveling.
