This afternoon Bella and I snuggled in the chair and watched some videos while she munched on her cheese and sweet potatoes and Sophia rolled around on the floor chewing on her teething ring.
We watched about half a dozen videos, jumping from one thing to another. Among them were Mstislav Rostropovich playing the Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 (then Yo-Yo Ma playing the same piece); Yo-Yo Ma, Bobby McFarrin, Edgar Meyer, and Mark O’Connor playing Hush Little Baby; and Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman playing Dvorak. Bella was entranced. She clapped along with the audiences and even got up to dance around. We even found a clip of Yo-Yo Ma on Sesame Street, playing with Elmo.
I play music for Bella all the time but what I like about You Tube is that I can point out the violin and cello and bass and she can actually watch the performers play their instruments. And we can watch and listen to several different performances of the same piece to see how various performers interpret it. I’ve decided to finally create a You Tube account so I can save all the best videos for her to watch again and again.
Oh, and I just found Perlman, Bashmet and Yo-Yo Ma playing The Chicken Dance!!! Bella’s going to love that when she gets up from her nap.
I wonder if we could set up reality TV-style cameras in our new home so I could see all this stuff later when I miss it.
No, that would be creepy.
“Sure, you say that now, but I would do it discreetly. …No? Okay,” he said grumpily. “You’d think differently if the positions were reversed.”
Stupid job. ๐
“You’d think differently if the positions were reversed.”
Um. Maybe. But I’m sure you’d think differently if I were proposing to point a camera at you.
“Stupid job.”

Well, it does pay the bills.
You sure about that? You know how much of a ham I am. Sam I Am.
