Things I Love

Isabella standing on the back porch notices a seagull flying overhead. She gets so excited she’s jumping up and down, climbing onto the railing, yelling, “SEAGULL!!!!!” at the top of her lungs.

Sophia, watching Isabella run up and down on the porch, belly laughs. There is nothing more joyful than a baby laughing and Sophia’s laugh is particularly infectious.

  • Melanie, what a good quote! I had never come across it before. I knew that Tolkien was Catholic, but had not read anything he had written directly on the subject.  I have to smile a little at the last paragraph. Not only have been present at Masses such as he describes; I have probably also been one of those less than attentive and decorous people at times.

    Oh yes, me too.

  • Nancy,

I’m so glad to have been of service. Please remember me when you go to daily mass. I miss it so, having been a daily communicant in the year before I was married; but this is obviously not the season of my life when being a daily communicant is feasible. Hopefully once the girls are a bit older it will be a little easier to get to daily mass once again.

  • Melanie, I started going to daily Mass when my youngest child entered kindergarten.  She’s a junior in college now!
I will say a prayer for you.

  • Melanie, I’ve been by your blog just a few times in the course of surfing the Catholic blogosphere.  The Lord led me here today as a reminder of why I should return to being a daily communicant.

What a powerful quote – and one that I plan to share with my daughters (who are in their 20’s).
