Saturday Outing

Saturday Outing

We took a drive today to enjoy the lovely spring weather. Rambled up the coast on Route 127 to Manchester by the Sea and then cut over to Essex to get some fried clams at Woodman’s.

Everything is in bloom, we often drove through white flurries of flower petals. The sea was a shining blue dotted with a few sailboats. The trees were all that lovely shade of yellow green that makes me think of Robert Frost’s poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay:

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

We all had a great lunch, gorging ourselves on fried seafood and french fries. Why are fried potatoes so delicious, so addictive? Bella had a hot dog and fries and had to be reminded to eat because she was so absorbed in people watching. Not a bad way to spend the day before one’s second birthday.
