I just realized today what would have been the perfect title for this blog post: Ad Nauseam.
This afternoon was one of those times that all parents of young children will recognize. Bella wanted the same book over and over and over again. I was starting to get sick, physically, gagging and holding my hand to my mouth. And still she wouldn’t relent. Fortunately, she’s still too young to realize when I change the words. I started singing the “I’m changing the words and you don’t realize it” song and as long as I turned the pages regularly, she was happy. That won’t last long, I know.
Still, I had never thought that the phrase “ad nauseam” might describe a literal response to too many readings of a children’s book. For the record, in my case it is not poetic license but a mere description of fact.
