Fonda San Miguel

Fonda San Miguel

I was a little surprised to see one of my family’s favorite Austin, Texas restaurants, Fonda San Miguel, mentioned in a headline in our local Salem paper. San Miguel’s is a local place with only one location, not a chain. So how are they getting a mention and why? I was very curious.

Well, I had to read a few paragraphs into the article, but then it turns out that to celebrate the restaurant’s 30th anniversary they are releasing a cookbook: Fonda San Miguel: Thirty Years Of Food And Art.

Awesome. It’s going on my Amazon wishlist.

Fonda San Miguel is no Tex-Mex dive. It’s a fine-dining restaurant that serves up interior and coastal cuisine of Mexico. It’s the place we go for birthdays and other family celebrations. It’s where my dad would take out of town visitors he wanted to impress. And it’s one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. If you’re ever in Austin, go. It’s a real treat.

Sadly, Dom hasn’t been there yet. I meant to take him while we were in Austin last month. But we kept saying we’d go out once Bella had settled down and was sleeping better. Which didnt really happen. And then we just got settled into a family routine and lost track of time and before we knew it we were heading back home. But we’ll go next time.

Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to the book.
