What I’m reading: Little House

The Little House in the Highlands

While the Little House books were not quite as much a favorite as Narnia or Anne of Green Gables, still, they were a prominent feature of my childhood landscape. Recently I stumbled across Melissa Wiley’s blog, Here in the Bonny Glen and discovered that she has expanded the series, writing about Laura Ingalls Wilder’s maternal grandmother (Charlotte) and great-grandmother (Martha).

Intrigued, I ordered up several books from the library. And so far am delighted with the stories of Martha Morse, Laura’s great-grandmother, who grew up in the Scottish Highlands. I look forward to introducing Isabella to the original little house books as well as to the additions to the series. A great way to enter into history: books that make it live and breathe.
