teaching “The Tempest”

I am really liking this semester’s humanities class. A good group of students. Thoughtful, willing to ask questions and raise objections. I feel challenged by them and I hope to in turn challenge them. At least it won’t be like last semester: a painful hour and ten minutes of lecture twice a week that both I and the students came to loathe. I was frustrated, but I think I also had given up. Too tired to fight to get them to discuss, I just gave in and started lecturing. They all seemed so apathetic. I’m ashamed to say I caught the bug.
